Retention Programme

An estimated £300 million is wasted each year due to students leaving further and higher education courses early. Prevention is better than a cure, so to confront the rising ‘dropout’ trend, we’ve developed a series of educational workshops that tackle the root of the problem.
Each workshop is designed to help students plan their way out of difficult situations and into a more successful educational journey.

Programme overview

This programme is a five-day intervention, ideally delivered over the course of a single academic year. It comprises educational workshops that will aid students as they transition to further education. Each session explores a range of effective tools and techniques to support students as they develop into autonomous learners with motivation and a strong sense of purpose.

  • Bridging the Gap
  • Goal Setting
  • Mastering Student Motivation
  • Exam Mastery
  • Resilience

Aims of the programme

  • To shape positive, focused students who have clear goals and a firm understanding of why they are in further education
  • To provide effective, creative and motivational study techniques

Programme content

During this programme, students will:

  • Learn how to navigate the transition between Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5
  • Gain better clarity on where their educational journey will take them
  • Engage with the ‘DAC effect’: encompassing the drive, attitude and confidence to succeed
  • Receive an exam toolkit to help them ‘bust’ through their revision and exams
  • Learn how to become more resilient and better able to meet challenges and adversity when they appear
  • Discover how to become more independent learners

Benefits

Entering further education presents many challenges for students as they strive to become independent learners, cope with increasing workloads, gain deeper subject understanding and cope with the pressure of choosing their ‘next steps’.

Each workshop in this programme has been carefully selected to align with the issues that schools and colleges are facing, and the skills that students need to improve on.

Students leave this five-day experience with a comprehensive toolkit of practical techniques that enable them to meet higher standards, encourage focus and raise their aspirations. Together, these sessions help to keep students on track, give them a sense of renewed purpose and keep them travelling on their educational journey.
