Next Steps Programme

While the content of the individual workshops is applicable to any year group, this programme elicits the strongest results when delivered to students in Year 11 and beyond.

The workshops can be delivered at any point throughout the academic year, or on consecutive days, as part of a wider careers-focused initiative.

The Next Steps Programme consists of the following two workshops:

• Day 1: Making Informed Decisions
• Day 2: Goal Setting

• To provide students with a toolkit of powerful goal setting and decision making techniques
• To help students visualise their goals and identify the steps they need to take in order to achieve them
• To raise student aspirations and develop an understanding of the role education plays in their desired career choice

This fast-paced, interactive programme provides students with a multi-level approach to raising their aspirations and achieving success in the workplace.

During this programme, students will:

• Learn the importance and methodology of making well informed, considered decisions
• Learn how to leverage their support network to help them achieve their goals
• Gain insight into the different pathways into training and employment
• Engage in team activities and discussions, encouraging communication, storytelling and leadership skills

Content within the Next Steps Programme is strongly aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Students who experience this programme will develop a deeper understanding of the decision making process, and will have a clearer idea of how to make education relevant to their goals and aspirations.

The workshops within the Next Steps Programme can be delivered as standalone sessions, but schools report that the programmatic approach is much more effective and results in greater student engagement.

In total, the Next Steps Programme is a two-day intervention that can be delivered face-to-face or online.
